Lawrence "Larry" V. Pike
Founder and President

Lawrence Pike founded The Chartwell Group, LLC in December 2001 after building a successful public sector career as an Administrative Assistant in the United States Senate, Campaign Manager Finance Director for Senator John McCain, an intelligence official with the United States Department of State and as an officer in the United States Army.

Before founding The Chartwell Group, Pike was Senator John McCain's Chief of Staff in Arizona during the attack on the United States of America on September 11, 2001.

Pike directed staff in Arizona and coordinated many of Senator McCain's actions and his schedule in the days and weeks after 9-11, following the Senator's return to Arizona. Even with the uncertainties in the country following the attack and the dire economic circumstances that immediately followed, undaunted, and with Senator McCain's support and encouragement, Pike moved forward with his plans to begin a new public affairs company with a business model and plan that assumed zero clients at its launch.

Larry Pike saw a void in Arizona for the kind of public affairs and public relations firm he felt was lacking but necessary. And so he built a company with a focus on policy; one that was detail-oriented and a firm that would be regarded as an asset for a business or organization helping to advance their business development objectives and standing in the community.

Pike's background is uniquely suited to the company he founded. Prior to his top positions with Arizona's senior Senator John McCain, Pike served as a senior intelligence analyst for the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) in Washington D.C. during which he wrote and edited the highly classified Secretary's Morning Intelligence Summary, a current daily intelligence product whose consumers were at the very highest levels of government. He routinely briefed Assistant Secretaries and Deputy Assistant Secretaries on critical issues, notably the first Gulf War, and coordinated with other agency watch and operations centers. He held a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.

Besides his work with Senator McCain and the Department of State, Pike served as an Army Intelligence Officer in the United State Army, Army Reserves and Virginia Army National Guard, has been integrally involved in numerous political campaigns, both candidate and referenda, and involved with countless charitable and philanthropic endeavors. Larry Pike has lived in Arizona for 28 years and graduated from Arizona State University in 1987 with a degree in Political Science and earned a Commission as a Second Lieutenant from ASU's Army ROTC program.

While his business plan in December of 2001 assumed zero clients at its outset, almost immediately, the City of Goodyear sought his services and expertise to assist the City with the Defense Department's latest Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRACC) in promoting Luke Air Force Base.

Nine years and numerous clients later The Chartwell Group is firmly entrenched and recognized in Arizona, and nationally, as a serious-minded public affairs firm that will accomplish what it sets out to do for its clients.

Pike is married to Nicole and they have two wonderful young sons, Charles and James. He has lived in Arizona, Michigan, and Washington D.C.
